York Street Office Building

The site, formerly the location of the Training Centre for Hall Russell Shipyard, lies between the Esplanade and York Street in an area of the city where there is a shortage of modern high specification office buildings to meet the demand from the oilfield supply companies wanting to be located near the harbour.

The proposed building will provide a prestigious, fully serviced, energy efficient modern office building overlooking the harbour. It has been designed with large open plan office areas on the upper floors to take advantage of the views out to sea, and a combination of clean smooth cladding panels and aluminium curtain wall glazing has been used to give the building a crisp modern appearance.  A band of dark, louvre-effect cladding panels have been introduced at high level to provide a contrast between the main cladding/glazing and the overshooting roof.

The building has a prominent wave-form roof, with the curve of the roof being reflected in the curved curtain wall glazing that sits in front of the oval-shaped feature staircase.

To acknowledge the former use of the site, all the dressed granite from the frontage of the demolished building will be used to construct a screen wall between the site and the adjacent unsightly storage yard.
